Got a new fridge with a built-in ice maker or chilled water dispenser? You'll need a dedicated water line connected before any of that works. It's a tidy little job that most people put off because they're not sure what's involved — but in most cases we can have it done in a few hours and you'll be filling glasses from the door the same day. Primary Plumbing Solutions handles fridge water line installations across the Sutherland Shire and Greater Sydney, along with dishwasher connections and other appliance plumbing.
What the Job Involves
We run a water supply line from the nearest cold water pipe to the back of your fridge. The method depends on your kitchen layout and what's accessible, but typically includes:
- Tapping into an existing cold water supply line under the kitchen sink or in a nearby cupboard
- Installing a proper quarter-turn shut-off valve (more reliable and easier to service than older saddle valves)
- Running braided stainless steel or copper line to the fridge location
- Connecting to the fridge's inlet fitting and testing for leaks
We always use a dedicated shut-off valve so you can isolate the fridge line independently if needed — something that makes future servicing or appliance replacement much easier.
Dishwasher Connections Too
While we're in the kitchen, we also connect dishwashers — both the water supply and the waste drain. If you're installing a new dishwasher or replacing an old one, it makes sense to have a plumber do both connections properly at the same time. It's a straightforward job and means no worrying about whether the drain is seated correctly or whether the supply fitting will hold.
